Alright Montfortians
Updates first.
From now onwards (20 July 2010), we will be having prayer sessions every Tuesday at the Sanctuary.
I invited Mr. James to join us for prayer. This will hopefully revive the once strong Catholic spirit in Montfort.
Today, our Brother Dominic, shared with us Psalm 7 and it really have a deep meaning. Ponder upon the words :)
Psalm 7
Psalm 7
A shiggaion[a] of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning Cush, a Benjamite.
1 O LORD my God, I take refuge in you;
save and deliver me from all who pursue me,
2 or they will tear me like a lion
and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
3 O LORD my God, if I have done this
and there is guilt on my hands-
4 if I have done evil to him who is at peace with me
or without cause have robbed my foe-
5 then let my enemy pursue and overtake me;
let him trample my life to the ground
and make me sleep in the dust.

6 Arise, O LORD, in your anger;
rise up against the rage of my enemies.
Awake, my God; decree justice.
7 Let the assembled peoples gather around you.
Rule over them from on high;
8 let the LORD judge the peoples.
Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness,
according to my integrity, O Most High.
9 O righteous God,
who searches minds and hearts,
bring to an end the violence of the wicked
and make the righteous secure.

Bible Passage
Luke 19:28-40
Jesus went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. Now when he was near Bethphage and Bethany, close by the Mount of Olives as it is called, he sent two of the disciples, telling them, “Go off to the village here. If anyone asks you, “Why are you untying it?” you are to say this, “The Master needs it.”” The messengers went off and found everything just as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owner said, “Why are you untying that colt?” and they answered, “The Master needs it.” So they took the colt to Jesus, and throwing their garments over its back the helped Jesus on to it. As he moved off, people spread their cloaks in the road, and now, as he was approaching the downward slope of the Mount of Olives, the whole group of disciples joyfully began to praise God at the top of their voices for all the miracles they have seen. They cried out: “Blessings on the King who comes, in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heavens!” Some Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Master, check your disciples”, by He answered, “I tell you, If these keep silence, the stones will cry out.”
Reflection
Why do you think the Gospel write spent time explaining how Jesus obtained the colt for his ride into Jerusalem? It’s meant to teach us something in our current circumstances. We each have a “colt” tied up somewhere in our lives. It’s anything that belongs to us and is not yet being shared with Christ. It could be out possessions, money, talents, skills, creativity, time, energy, etc. The Master has need of it! But sometimes we selfishly tie these up with our own agendas and business. They would be useful to Jesus if we let him have them. Like the colt Jesus rode, they could become gifts that glorify our Savior.
We should rejoice gratefully every Sunday with hosannas and admiration, for in the Eucharist we reunite ourselves to that tremendous love. In this communion, why aren’t we grinning like lovers who have become joined to their beloved? The answer to that is: Our “colts” are still tied up to the post. Jesus has sent disciples to you to ask you to share your “colt” with Jesus. They are at the altar consecrating the Eucharist for you. They are writing bulletin “help wanted” blurbs. They are interrupting you at work asking for your prayers or counsel or other assistance. They are strangers who are in need of your charitable donations.
Who have you heard asking you to become more involved in the plans of God’s kingdom?
Questions for Personal Reflection
Make a list of the “colts” in your life. Which ones would you like Jesus to put to good use? Spend time in prayer imagining that you are untying them and handling them over to Jesus. See how pleased he is!
Questions for Family & Community Faith Sharing
Tell your group about a “colt” in your life that Jesus has need of. Why is it so difficult to let go of the reins? How can giving control of it over to Jesus help him complete his mission in today’s world?
